This is for you if you're a girl in finance

This email is for you—the finance girl with a strong profile but who isn't sure if you can make it to the top because of some clear weaknesses in your application.

Contrary to what business schools might tell you, if you're a woman in finance with a solid profile, you shouldn't apply early.

Why? Because the Financial Times and QS are putting much more emphasis on the number of women in their cohorts.

This means that expected GMAT scores for women in finance programs tend to be lower than those for men: 680 for women compared to 720 for men.

Indeed, between Rounds 3 and 4, many applicants reject offers from ESSEC, LBS, and INSEAD because they get accepted into programs like HEC Finance, MIT Finance, and Columbia MSFE. However, schools like LBS and ESSEC want to maintain 51% female representation in their cohorts given the increased weight this factor stand for the rankings. So they will offer last-minute spots to strong female profiles, even if they have weaknesses that would normally be a deal-breaker.

Last year, we’ve successfully sent a candidate with a 640 GMAT (old scoring) to HEC in Round 4 and another with a 610 GMAT to LBS in Round 4, both last year and this year.

So, one of the best windows to consider is Round 3 or Round 4.
