Using Nationality to boost your applications
Play it smart
Business Schools for the most part have one objective : climbing up the international rankings ladder as fast & high as they can.
How does that impact you as a candidate ?
You should focus on playing the diversity card. Schools are incentivised by the rankings system to have diverse international cohorts with students from all over the globe. To ensure they do so, most of them have quotas in place limiting the number of seats for students from certain nationalities.
However in the applicant pool, there aren’t an equal amount of students applying to a given school on a given round from France as there are from Madagascar from example.
This explains in large part why it is much harder for a french student to be granted admission into HEC than an American student for example, or an Italian at ESCP. The mentioned schools usually have a lot of french students from the “Classe Préparatoire” track and want internationals.
This is why to the best of your ability you should apply with the “rarest” nationality; if you are French-American applying in France for example, use your American nationality and don’t declare your French nationality.
