We’re sharing our 38 pages Non-technical IB interview guide.
General Tips
Master the S.T.A.R Technique: For instance, if discussing a project, start with the situation (S) and the task (T) you were given. Describe the action (A) you specifically took and finish with the result (R) achieved.
Preparation Strategy
Deep Dive into Industry and Company Knowledge: For example, if you're interviewing with a firm that recently engaged in a significant merger, understand the details and implications of this move. Know their competitors, market position, and cultural values.
Interview Execution
Professional Appearance Matters: Dress sharply and in line with the company's culture.
Confident Body Language: Stand tall, make eye contact, and offer a firm handshake.
Show, Don’t Tell: Instead of saying "I'm a great team player," share a story where you collaborated with a team to overcome a challenge.
Be Yourself: Authenticity can be your strongest asset. Let your personality shine through in your responses.
Handling Questions
Storytelling with Depth: For example, if asked about a challenge, talk about a specific instance where you faced a difficult situation, how you addressed it, and what you learned.
Prepare for the Unexpected: If asked a question you didn't anticipate, relate it to one of your prepared S.T.A.R stories that shares a similar theme or lesson.
Post-Interview
Express Gratitude: Personalize your thank-you note by referring to a specific part of your conversation.
Questions to Ask
Ask Insightful Questions: For instance, inquire about the company’s strategy towards emerging markets or how they foster innovation within teams.
Additional Tips
Mock Interviews for Practice: Simulate a real interview scenario with a friend or use online resources. Focus on articulating your stories clearly and confidently.
Be Ready to Discuss Any Resume Point: If you mention a skill or experience, be prepared to provide a detailed story about it.
Remember, the goal is to show not just your skills and experience, but also your fit with the company's culture and your genuine interest in the role. Your preparation, demeanor, and the way you interact with everyone during the process will all contribute to making a strong impression.
