Interviews are up next !

Don't mess up

You’ve made it to the final test in what has been a long journey! The interview is the last trial before making it to your dream destination. Keep in mind this is often a make or break stage, and will not factor some sort of score averaged out with your application file. That’s why it’s key to be over prepared.

There are several key elements to making sure you are prepared for your interview.

  1. Understand the rules of the game

You need to understand which environment you will be interview in: is it a jury ? How many members are on the jury ? What are their roles / backgrounds ? Is it a sole alumni, or someone from the admissions office ? Is it an online video assessment ?

Identifying who will be interviewing you is key. Sometimes you will have the name given to have before hand so you can linkedin stalk your interviewer to try and identify common points before hand, other times you will have to be very focused at the beginning as the jury quickly presents themself.

Depending on the nature of the jury, the interview style will be more informal / conversational vs. a bit more formal.

  1. Work on your introduction

This is the most important part of your interview. Practice in front of your mirror, write it down if needed - do whatever it takes to nail your introduction and start off strong.

You want to be able to summarize who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going in an intriguing narrated snapshot of your life wanting to make your interviewer dig deeper into your life, and ultimately want to help you on your journey by granting you admission.

The end of your introduction will allow them to ask more detailed questions on your professional project typically.

  1. Prepare prepare prepare

A useful way to prepare for your interview is to build a base of answers to frequently asked questions. Some questions you know with a 90+% certainty they will be asked, so you have no excuse for NOT having a perfect answer to them:

  • Why do you want to pursue x ?

  • Why our program specifically ?

  • How do you intend to contribute to our program ?

  • What did you most enjoy/learn during your experience at x ?

Depending on your interview, you can build a solid repertoire of interview answer questions, preparing for example questions about:

  • Books, movies, art galleries you recently attended

  • A dinner with 3 guests who would you choose ?

  • A challenge you had to overcome ?

  • A time you failed ?
